The small village of Lichtendorf near the Swiss border is known throughout the world for the artistry of its doll makers, the most famous of which is Professor Capella.

His dolls were unique even in Lichtendorf because of his strange power to make themselves loved by anyone looking upon their beauty.

This caused much jealousy among the women in the village. Not the least of these was Swanhilda, whose husband Franz was known to go by the professor's shop on his way to and from work.

One day Swanhilda decided to see for herself, furious at seeing Franz was indeed in love with one of the dolls.

She was about to go after him when suddenly she saw the professor leaving his shop.
